If you enjoy the Old West and reliving the days of the cowboys, the cavalry and the Indians, you will enjoy your stay at Fort Mason Outpost Guest House, located on Pecan Street, just two blocks from the historic courthouse square. It is a 2-story rock structure built in the style of frontier outpost barracks, with a porch on the south and east sides of the top floor equipped with rocking chairs to enjoy your morning coffee or relax with a good book. The rock for the outside was gathered from an old home long ago fallen down on the old Ischar place located just outside of town on the James River Road. Not far from the old fallen down home is a gravesite with a headstone bearing the name of Johann Georg Ischar—born in Muehlbach, Baden, Germany, on July 4, 1823 and died in Mason County on February 7, 1895. The Ischar family is one of the earliest settlers of Mason County.

Fort Mason Guest House is fully air conditioned and heated for your comfort. Downstairs is a sitting/TV viewing area, kitchen/dining area, and a half bath, while upstairs are two bedrooms and a full bath. The two bedrooms are furnished with full size beds to accommodate two couples comfortably or we can provide sleeping accommodations for a family or several hunting buddies. One bedroom features a mesquite bed made by local craftsman, Chuck Stuart of Stuart’s Sawmill, PO Box 1262, Mason, TX 76856. The kitchen has a microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, refrigerator and toaster oven. A continental breakfast is available to greet you each morning.
